The Dust Bowl, a man-made environmental disaster, began in 1931 and lasted for almost a decade, displacing entire populations in the Southern Plains region of the United States. Constant droughts, bug infestations, and increasingly dangerous living conditions left farmers with one guarantee: dust.

Setting texts exclusively from newspaper articles, diaries, and first-hand oral accounts of survivors, this performance of the Dust Bowl, a new theatrical experience, pieces together nearly a decade of human struggle, hopefulness, and perseverance in the face of constant catastrophe. From fatal dust pneumonia to plagues of jackrabbits and grasshoppers, the performances of this play are honest and raw.

In collaboration with a bluegrass band, video projection, and choreographed movement, Verdigris Ensemble showcases stories of that time period through previously unexplored mediums and asks the question: how did this happen, and have we learned from our mistakes? Verdigris Ensemble will present Dust Bowl at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 1st.

This troupe gathers the best local and out-of-state talent to present our community with thoughtfully programmed projects. By building an ensemble of musicians from across the country we create an environment of collaboration and exchange. For additional information, visit www.verdigrismusic.org.
